What is softshell?
Softshell is a material that is becoming increasingly popular these days and for several reasons.
Softshell is a great fabric that keeps us warm, repels water and is flexible. In addition, the fabric allows the body to breathe and is soft on the back. Softshell can be called essential in moderate weather, ideal from minus six to plus ten degrees.
Softshell consists of three layers pressed together – an outer waterproof layer, a thermoactive layer and an inner soft fleece. Therefore, it does not need a separate lining. Since air molecules are smaller than water molecules, the fabric can be both waterproof and breathable. The fabric is made in such a way that air molecules can move, but water molecules cannot penetrate.
How to care for your softshell?
Machine washing of softshells is highly recommended, as body dirt and external debris clog the pores, the permeability of which is essential for the membrane to function properly.
Check pockets, remove contents and close all fasteners (e.g. zippers) before putting the garment in the machine. It is recommended to turn the overalls inside out and wash separately.
A special detergent (e.g. for sports and outdoor clothing) will extend the life of your overalls.
Fabric softeners that can destroy the functional properties of the fabric should not be used in softshell washing. The same applies to water softeners and bleaches.
Wash and rinse the softshell, but do not spin or use a tumble dryer.
Twisting the fabric by hand can damage the fabric membrane and reduce its functionality.
It is best to hang the onesie dripping wet on a clothes hanger and let it dry at its own pace.
Softshell can withstand temperatures up to 40 degrees, but gentle washing at 30 degrees is recommended.
